Le samedi 5 février, j’ai passé une des plus remarquables journées de mon séjour en France. Mon amie Allison m’a invité à fêter l’Alliance Franco-Américaine de 1778 avec votre groupe, ce qui m’intéressait tout de suite.
Comme étudiante, j’étudie l’histoire de la révolution américaine, et l’histoire française de la même époque, donc j’ai beaucoup apprécié cette opportunité de fêter l’amitié entre nos deux pays.
Nous avons commencé la journée avec une visite à l’usine où l’on fabrique les fameux berlingots de Carpentras. Le propriétaire nous a montré le processus de fabrication, et c’était vraiment intéressant.

On Saturday, the 5th of February, I enjoyed one of the most remarkable days of my stay in France. My friend Allison invited me to celebrate the Franco-American Alliance of 1778 with your group, which interested me right away.
As a student, I study the American Revolution, as well as French history from the same time period, so I really appreciated the opportunity to celebrate the friendship between our two countries.
We started the day with a visit to the factory where they make the famous Carpentras berlingots. The owner showed us the fabrication process, and it was really interesting.
C’était clair qu’il aime beaucoup son travail, et l’on ne voit pas souvent les bonbons fabriqués à la main aux Etats-Unis. C’était intéressant de voir la fabrication d’un produit local, et il était délicieux aussi !
Après avoir fait la visite, on est allé manger à Chez Serge. C’était un magnifique repas à mon avis ! Délicieux !
Cependant, ce que j’ai aimé le mieux pendant le repas était la conversation. Autour de la table, nous avions deux Canadiens, un Belge, trois Américaines, et plusieurs Français, et la parole n’a jamais cessé. Nous discutions des voyages que nous avons fait, la politique, les films, et plusieurs d’autres sujets en français et en anglais.
C’était super bien passé, et c’était (pour moi au moins) un symbole parfait de l’amitié entre mon pays et la France qui a commencé en 1778, et qui durera toujours on espère !

Après le repas, nous avons visité Carpentras avec nos invitées. JP.
It was clear that he loves his work, and we don’t often see candies made by hand in the U.S. It was interesting to see how a local product is made, and it was delicious too!
After the tour, we went to eat at Chez Serge. It was a magnificent meal in my opinion! Delicious! However, what I enjoyed most during the meal was the conversation. We had two Canadians, one Belgian, three Americans, and several French people around the table, and the talking never stopped. We discussed the trips we’ve been on, politics, movies, and several other topics in both French and English.
It was really great, and was (for me at least) a perfect symbol of the friendship between my country and France that started in 1778, and will hopefully last forever!
