Samedi 4 décembre, l’association France-Etats-Unis a préparé un jour plein d’évènements pour les étudiants dans la région, nous deux qui habitons à Carpentras (Maria et moi), mon amie Mary, et quatre étudiants de l’IAU à Avignon.
Steve et Florence nous ont rencontrés à Terradou et on a pris une photo pour le journal « La Provence » avant d’aller à Moulin à Huile (Saint-Hippolyte le Graveyron), où nous avons vu la production de l’huile d’olive ! Le propriétaire était sympa, et il nous a tout expliqué . Une des choses que nous avons apprises était qu’il faut à peu près 5 kilo d’olives pour faire un litre de l’huile d’olive. C’est beaucoup d’olives !

On Saturday, December 4, the France-Etats Unis association planned a full day of events for students in the area, which included the two of us in Carpentras (Maria and me), my friend Mary, and four students from the IAU in Avignon.
Steve and Florence met us at the bus station in Carpentras and we took a picture for the paper « La Provence » before heading to Moulin à Huile in Saint Hippolyte le Graveyron, where we saw olive oil being made! The owner was really nice, and explained everything to us. One of the things we learned was that it usually takes about 5 kilos of olives to make one liter of olive oil. That’s a lot of olives!
Après, Steve et Florence nous ont conduit jusqu’à Chateau de Barroux afin de prendre des photos de la région.
On est retourner à Saint-Hippolyte le Graveyron pour un buffet campagnard et une dégustation de vins. La sélection de Primeurs et Vins Nouveaux était bonne et les entrées étaient délicieuses.
Nous nous sommes bien amusés pendant quelques heures avant d’aller à la mairie de Carpentras, où nous avons mangé plus de pâtisseries, bu du jus d’orange, et pris des photos dans le bureau du maire.
Une fille sympa nous a fait un tour de Carpentras qui a commencé à la mairie, et on a vu beaucoup de bâtiments importants de ville. On avait l’opportunité de monter la Porte d’Orange, qui n’est pas ouverte aux visiteurs. C’était un vue magnifique de la ville et de la région !
Il faisait assez froid, alors on est allé boire du chocolat chaud et se réchauffer avant de voir l’illumination inaugurale du sapin de noël.
Le maire a fait allumer le sapin et on a pris une photo avec lui avant que les étudiants de l’IAU ne repartent.
Je pense que je peux parler pour tous les étudiants pour dire que nous avons bien aimé la journée – merci beaucoup à l’association !
After that, Steve and Florence drove us over to Chateaux de Barroux so that we could take some pictures of the region.
We went from there back to Saint-Hippolyte le Graveyron for appetizers and wine tasting. The wine, a selection of “Primeurs et Vins Nouveaux” was delish and so were all of the little treats.
We spent several hours socializing and enjoying the wine before heading to the town hall in Carpentras, where we had some more pastries, more drinks, and had a photo shoot in the mayor’s office.
A nice girl took us on a walking tour of Carpentras from there, showing us many of the city’s important buildings and telling us about their history. We were able to go up into the Porte d’Orange, which is normally not open to visitors. It was a really great view of the city and the region!
It was pretty chilly, so we went to get some hot chocolate and to warm up before attending the inaugural lighting of the Carpentras “Christmas tree.”
The mayor lit the tree and then took a picture with us before the IAU students went back to Avignon.
I think I can speak for all of the students to say that we had a wonderful time – thanks so much to the organization!
